Although girls make more unsuccessful attempts, death by suicide for boys between the ages of 10-14 is twice the rate of girls; between 15-19 it is 3.3X; and between 20-24 it is 5-6X more.
School shooters carrying out mass killings are nearly all male.
Boys are more than twice as likely as girls to be diagnosed with ADHD and put on powerful stimulant medication.
Worldwide, boys are 50% less likely than girls to meet proficiency standards in reading, math and science. Only 20% of U.S. 8th grade boys are proficient in writing compared to 42% of girls.
Boys are expelled from school three times as often as girls.
Fewer boys are now going on to higher education – a recent drop from 61% to 40% while girls climbed to over 60%.
Over the last 40 years, the median annual earnings of a boy with just a high school diploma dropped 26%.
Young men between 25-31 are 66% more likely than young women to be living at home with their parents instead of with a partner.
A young man’s ability to find a partner and raise a family is tied to his paycheck; 3 of 4 women say they won’t date an unemployed man.
93% of our jail and prison population are males.
